Start with your soil.

Now is the time to refresh the dirt. Work in dried peat moss or compost and take the time to pull any weeds that may have sprung up over the summer.

Prune your fruit trees.

Citrus trees should be pruned right at the end of their most fruitful harvest and before the next year’s flowers start to bud. So if you see any dead or diseased branches … it’s time to say goodbye. This will promote a healthy, bountiful harvest for the next year and give you some delicious treats to fill your fruit bowl.

If you have children, get them involved in the harvest!

It’s a joy to get your little one’s hands dirty with a purpose. They will love harvesting your squash, herbs, tomatoes, beans and cucumbers... maybe even some early avocados. It’s best to harvest early in the morning. Keeping your goodies cool will extend their shelf life. August is also a good time to feed your strawberries and melons. Eco Scraps is a natural/organic brand that will feed your berries while keeping you safe.

Fill the empty spaces with succulents.

Succulents are an easy and beautiful addition to add to your yard. Using different varieties, colors, shapes and sizes to fill in those gaps in your landscape, take the look and feel of your yard to the next level. A beautiful filler that only needs watering once or twice a month is a win for sure!
